Growing Resilience: Care Farming as a Therapeutic Intervention

This course explores care farming, or the use of farming tasks and practices towards a therapeutic aim. Special attention will be given to theoretical foundations of this modality as a treatment approach with multiple populations. Students will be introduced to typical needs of populations served by care farms. Hands-on interaction with plants will provide students examples for framing activities in a care farming context. Students will be exposed to examples of multiple care farming operations (locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally) to spur critical thinking and explore the building blocks of care farming operations. During their spring break, students will enact their learning by volunteering with local care farming organizations.
