Program Description:
g
American Women Writers in Context is a Mountain Term course that will include two weeks of on-campus instruction and 10 days of off campus group travel to relevant literary sites in Washington D.C., several towns throughout Massachusetts, Hartford, CT, and Seneca Falls, NY. Students will read works by 19th Century American Women Writers in order to understand this burgeoning time for American Women Writers. During travel the group will tour their homes and important sites of publication or politics in order to understand how the literary culture (salons, lyceum circuit, etc.) allowed women's writing to flourish in ways even now the American Literary Canon fails to acknowledge.
